What do you mean by "like broccoli"? I eat broccoli, but I can't say I have much emotional response to it one way or another.
I get very emotional whenever I think of broccoli or eat broccoli or hear a broccoli sonata. I'm surprised it evokes no emotion in you, Mike. You're such a gushy emotional type of guy.

I find that I have to steam it for a really long time before it goos. Maybe yours starts out more gooey than mine does?

The Japanese source instrument for these veggies is the bamboo flute or shakuhachi. Played with the koto it is hauntingly beautiful. One of my favorite instumentsl

Reminds me of this scene from Breaking Away:
Dad: What is this?
Mom: It's sauteed zucchini.
Dad: It's I-tey food. I don't want no I-tey food.
Mom: It's not. I got it at the A&P. It's like... squash.
Dad: I know I-tey food when I hear it! It's all them "eenie" foods... zucchini... and linguini... and fettuccine. I want some American food, dammit! I want French fries!
