Default Doo Wop

God, I love it.

Apple iTunes started their own answer to Pandora (at least that is what it seems to me). Mac people get to set up their own Radio station(s) by selecting the types of songs they like and then similar songs play on and on……. with just a few ads, that can be eliminated for a few bucks a year.

I've been soaking this Doo Wop stuff up for the past couple days while playing on the pc. Then I got to wondering what was considered the top 40, 50, 100 or whatever of all times and did my Google. I was not too surprised to realize I used to have at least 50% of the top songs in the 220 45s I sold years ago. But what really surprised me was seeing how high the group The Skyliners came in on most lists. I always thought they were just a local Pittsburgh thing. The Five Satins "In the still of the night" ranks right up there of course but then there's "Since I don't have you" and then there's the Flamingo's …. I still have their LPs.

I challenge you lovers of Doo Wop to pick your top 5 and list them. I'm still thinking of mine cause I usually love the one I am hearing!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, "I only have eyes for you" is playing as I type this. Thank you iTunes. And it's free, like radio use to be.

I bought speakers for my pc but ended up using them with a TV, I may have to go shopping again.

I like some of the doo wop stuff, but couldn't listen to it all the time. It was fading when I was young and the likes of the Beatles, Dave Clark 5, etc. was coming along. I like a lot of music genres but cannot listen to any one thing for a long time. I really enjoy that Alternative station on Sirius (Alt Nation) and listen to it a great deal. I really like a lot of the newer music. The only thing I don't like about itunes is the constant non-ending updates.

To be honest I go through fads of listening to music also. Sometimes it's oldie moldies. Sometimes country. As for the new stuff, I hate most of it. Rappers do nothing for me. And most of the new songs I hear drive me nuts with the same beat and words over and over and over.

I was at Mr Tunes yesterday waiting to have new speakers installed in my truck. The station they had playing made me want to scream!!!

Though I am a few years younger than you, Dave, I still like your music and love hearing it at car shows.

One of the Del Vikings was named Joe Lopes. He was friends with Rick's family. As a matter of fact he used to rent a mobile home on my in-law's property. The same mobile home Rick and I lived in back in the late 1970's.

Like all groups, they switched up the members along the way.

Gee Lainey for a youngster you have good tastes. They probably rank somewhere in the top 10 of most lists.

That's a great link. Thanks. Talk about a hobby, holly $hit, it's unreal how much info he's collected.

It's impossible to narrow a list of favorite DooWop songs to only 5. Here are 25 that I love, not necessarily in any order. I'm sure I could come up with 25 more as well.

1. Once In A While-The Chimes
2. To The Aisle-The Five Satins
3. I'll Be Home-The Flamingos
4. On Broadway-The Drifters
5. Till Then-The Classics
6. You Belong to Me-The Duprees
7. Happy, Happy Birthday Baby-The Tune Weavers
8. Tonite, Tonite-The Mellow Kings
9. Come Go With Me-The Del Vikings
10. Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight-The Spaniels
11. The Way You Look Tonight-The Jaguars
12. Florence-The Paragons
13. Coney Island Baby-The Excellents
14. Gloria-The Cadillacs
15. Smoke From Your Cigarette-The Mellows with Lillian Leach
16. Long, Long And Lonely Nights-Lee Andrews & the Hearts
17. The Closer You Are-The Channels
18. Maybe-Arlene Smith & the Chantels
19. Sixteen Candles-The Crests
20. One Summer Night-The Danleers
21. Since I Don't Have You-The Skyliners
22. A Thousand Stars-The Rivellers
23. A Thousand Stars-Kathy Young & the Innocents
24. When You Dance-The Turbans
