So, around here, the day after Thanksgiving has become the definitive start of the holiday "shop till you drop" mentality.
The local stores compete with each other with ridiculous bargains that attempt to draw you in the store at some ungodly hour on Friday morning.
I'm actually nauseated by this attack by retail on the American family. Not that I want retail to have a bad season, I just think it's offensive to do this the day after T-day (I've always felt this, not just this year).
What do you think? Do you have this in your area?

I hate shopping in any event, but I REALLY hate shopping when it is busy. I try not to leave the house on the day after thanksgiving.
No way you could get me into the stores right after T-Day.
I can't believe the lengths the shoppers go to just to ensure Junior gets his Xbox. I've never ventured out to shop on "the day after", that's a day (thank goodness) I can get a lot of systems maintenance done at work as most everyone takes the day off.

If there's an end to civilization on the horizon, I think it will be driven by marketing, and this post-Thanksgiving feeding frenzy is an early-warning sign. Shopping as recreation -- with impulse purchasing embedded in it -- is what drives the national economy, so the outbursts like we will see tomorrow are important, but they're artificial, wasteful, and, well, unseemly.

The only way I know of to deal with it is simply to stay home. We have lots of gardening (or, more precisely, landscaping) to do, so that'll amuse us. HPH

HATE IT, DON'T DO IT. I do a lot of my shopping online, but we're paring down the list this year and most folks on our list will get a check instead of a gift. Those who get gifts will get sentimental ones.

I hate shopping for anything- cars included, except stereo/home theater equipment...
If I have to go someplace for something, I am in the store, get what I want then I'm gotta there!

I tried the day after a couple of years ago.
I went an hour early spent too much time trying to locate sale items.
By the time I got out I was late for work. (which was 4hrs later)
If my daughter wants a laptop I'll save her a place in line, but I don't really see anything else worth the trouble.
