Default Driving top down year round

There is a neat article in the Detroit News today about a guy who drives around Detroit year round with the top down. Snow or a little rain doesn't faze him. The article claims he has driven 2890 consecutive driving days without putting up the top.

He drives a 2005 S2000 and so far has logged 189,000 miles.

Here is the link to the article:

He's freezing more than his bald head today if he's out there. The wind chill today is -25.

I few years ago one Saturday in January I had some errands to run and it was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky albeit it was just 20*F (-6*C), so I took the S top down. I have to state that I got quite a few strange looks. But as us S drivers know: With the windows up and the heat on in the top down mode, we are sitting in that cocoon like pocket of warmed air.

I'm with Lainey on this one.

I'll pass on the ride, too.

Cold weather is the least of his problems. The road salt is eating the car away while I type this. Remember the "beater" discussion? This is a beater!

Saturday the Lonestar Chapter of S2KCA goes on its sometimes annual Top Down Polar Bear Drive. The forecast is for 70% chance of rain and temps in the 30s, so it might be a bit cold at speed. On the menu for lunch is some real country Texas BBQ, so maybe that will warm us up.

I don't know, guys... With a warm hat and gloves, and a good pair of snows, there's really no limit. Jerry's right; I love having the top down in winter. I've done lots of days with single digit temps, but I don't think I've gone negative yet. It does get a little cold (to me) when the single digits hit. And if you don't have your ears covered, you can't do it with any crosswinds.

Rust is an enemy, but so is time. Life is short; enjoy every possible minute.
