It was widely felt. My neighbors in California felt it and people at Kennedy Meadows felt it. I just found this photo of a road in Trona. I'm familiar with the general area as I used to ride off-road motorcycles out there a lot.
Yep, land of fruits and nuts along with "Shake and Bake".
No one has earthquake insurance. You cannot buy it unless you get it from the state. No coverage on concrete, stucco, or masonry. I just looked again a few months ago what would be offered for my house. The deductible for me is $265,000.00. Guess I won't have earthquake insurance along with everyone else in this place.
On Feb. 9, 1971 I experienced the Sylmar earthquake when I lived in North Hollywood in the San Fernando valley. I had just turned 13 years old. We didn't know about doorways yet. I ran out of my room. The pool was sloshing out. It was a 6.4 or 6.5. During the Northridge earthquake on January 17, 1994, my family and I were at Kennedy Meadows. We felt the aftershocks over magnitude 5 but missed the big one once we got home to Acton, CA. I've felt a few pleasant rollers while living in Trabuco Canyon, CA. My first thought is ALWAYS where is it centered? It can be deadly at the epicenter.
I was in LA when I was working at a convention. I was on the 14th floor of the hotel we were staying in. I was not feeling well so I decided not to go to the convention. All of a sudden a 5.8 earthquake hit. I was in the bathroom and the whole building swayed forward then back again. I was on the throne so I guess it's needless to say that I had the you know what scared out of me. I raced to the stairs as iI did not want to take the elevator. People were flying out of the convention center. I never returned to LA and I never will.

Kinda like sitting on the pot in a moving motorhome. Ya gotta hold on! That would be a scary introduction to earthquakes!
Brother-in-law was up in tall building in SF, when the Loma-Prieta quake hit, in 1989. He said ppl got violently "sea-sick" from the building's continuous movement.
