Default Empty nest?

We had a couple references today to the empty nest syndrome. Was it Batguano who bought a dog?

This is from MSNBC Empty Nest

Sometimes it's the Moms who have trouble with the empty nest, sometimes the Dads.

How do/did you and your +1 cope?

We only had one son. He didn't move out until almost age 24. It was time.

Our nest is only empty for short periods of time. Our house is open to all the kids and they all have keys, so we haven't had a permanently empty nest yet. It works out well when we travel that somebody's generally here. I think Dad will cope better with the empty nest than Mom will. I have a hard time sleeping at night until I've heard from each of my baby birds at some point every day.

I think my wife is more expressive about our son who is no longer here in the house. We haven't experienced any significant emotional out bursts yet but may be it will eventually come. One thing I must agree is that my wife thinks I am being more clingy now that our son is not here. By the way, that was a good article. Thank you.

As I said, our son moved out around age 24. It was time. There was a bit of going on, and it was time for him to be on his own.

I quickly redecorated his room.

Actually, I felt more emotion when he got married a year later, than when he moved out. I think that's when it actually hit me. My baby was grown up.

When our youngest moved out we were very depressed. That lasted about 24 seconds! It's the greatest thing to have our freedom back, now anybody out there want a dog?

The empty nest doesn't seem to bother Dad's as much. Men are more practical, women more emotional.

I know that when they are gone I don't even seem to notice.

When they come back, for a little while it is as if they never left.

I'm glad to see them come, and glad to see them go.

It's finally time that my wife and I get a life back.

For the longest we had to live their lives. They are the ones that got to have the fun and the friends, we were there just to go and support them in their endeavors.

I can finally run around the house naked and use the kitchen table for something other than eating

Well I meant for things like laying out car parts, etc. What did you think?

You've got a dirty mind! I like that
