I had 2 girls but it wasn't all that hard to kiss them good by as the son was still at home. Although I do still go thru stores and see outfits that I think would look good on the girls and want to buy them only to realize they aren't 12 anymore.

My wife has had a hard time with "her baby" leaving. He's in college so I guess he's not officially left although his room has been recycled and he only comes home for about 3 weeks a year.

Well I meant for things like laying out car parts, etc....
I remember the good old days when the dishwasher made an excellent parts washer too. I'm not allowed to do that anymore. :sigh:

We have 2 daughters 4 years apart so we have transitioned into the empty nest over the last 8 years. The older left for Elon College, NC (now a University) in 1998 - She did well at Elon and stayed gone almost all summer(s) long - traveled to Europe with the girls choir, doing mission work in Myrtle Beach and even went to Romania. After graduation she stayed in NC and got a job with a church as a youth director and subsequently as a counselor for a non-profit group that works with the junvenial court system. She remains in NC and is enjoying life. Our younger daughter wanted to go to a big university with a successful football team and had her eyes initially focused on U of FL but was convinced by her cousin, aunt and uncle that U of TN was the place to go..... . She too was gone each summer - studying abroad, mission trips, and summer jobs. She graduated this past May and remains in Knoxville doing traffic management for HGTV. It was hard for Marilyn (maybe me too) in 1998 when Marsha left , but we gradually realized that our love and teachings (common sense, books and spiritual) were keys to our children's successes. They each graduated in 4 years, have careers that pay enough to maintain their standards of living, neither have credit card debt, and each has a spritual "glo" about what they do.
Marilyn and I are proud parents and we do miss them - but now we have time for each other and we are catching up on the time we use to share with each other before children, as well as carching up on the time spent apart as I pursued my Navy career. We do get to see the girls when we can and they do come home on occassion.....
Empty nesting is fun ... we get to go more places now - with the S2k groups (Pinehurst, SF 06, Nor'Eastern, Gettysburg), NY a couple of times and even to CN ....I have 2 less girls in the house that tend to break things and therefore have less stuff to fix.......running around naked is enjoyable as well... but we usually wait until the neighbor across the street is out of town.... as we think she must be able to see through the shades.........

Well, there's a lot of for a while. Then they get and the next thing you know someone looks like this and you're back to having a in the family.

You get to buy carseats, a crib to keep at Grandma's the whole bit.

It's great.

Don't have dinner at my place

But you'd agree that at least it would be a memorable dinner, right.

We don't have neighbors with Xray vision so we can run around naked or jump in the pool naked whenever we want. It's GREAT!

Also being a Grandparent is much better than being a parent.

You can spoil them and send them home. Paybacks are a b*tch!!!!

You want drums for Christmas - you betcha!

You both should be proud of your girls. You apparently did a great job and they sound like wonderful girls.
