Poor, poor Rupert. My heart bleeds. I wonder if he'll hit the skids and have to take up residency under a bridge with the rest of the trolls. I'm guessing no, and that his sleazy disinformation machine will churn on unabated.

Scummy as he is, He is smart enough to know which way the wind blows and could smell this getting really ugly quick.
I think he wanted to kill the cancer before it reached into his other interests.

Perhaps his intentions were not that noble, I think that he was hoping that the Brits are just not be that smart and they would forget all this and allow the BSkyB acquisition to continue with the blessing of the Cameron Administration.

If he really wanted to remove ALL doubt he might remove his News Corp CEO Rebekah Brooks, who either knew should have known what was going on.

The only people that were hurt were the staff that had nothing to do with this. "FIRE THEM ALL! We'll just publish a Sunday version of the Sun, which is what the NoW was anyway."

So instead of firing the coach, he fired the team, with the hopes all will blow over and he can turn BSkyB into Fox East. As for the staff that is now unemployed, let them eat cake.

trust me, i was in no way inferring noble behavior,
but as you mentioned, simply trying to staunch the bleeding
and not let the infection get to his other enterprises.

his ethics are repugnant.

It seems things are just not working out for Mr. Murdock, News Corp, or Fox.
BSkyBappears to be out of Rupert's grasp, there is also some stir on this side of the Atlantic. It seems that the ever-present News Corp might have hacked accounts of 9/11 victims
But the poo might really hit the fan in the UK, seems his pal Mr Cameron is making noise that Rupert might not like.

But what really made just a wee but angry was the fact that Murdock's News of the World, not only hacked a murder victims voice mail, but DELETED messages from the girls account, leading the parent to assume she was still alive and accessing her account well after she was dead. That is despicable.

I heard that on the news this AM. While I was not shocked, I was certainly disgusted.

I thought he shuttered NOTW a little quickly.
Given his prior reputation, a lot of people, are now looking closely at a lot of his enterprises.

Heh, heh. If the rumors of their hacking 9-11 victims' phones, etc., gain traction, then his U.S. empire is going to start to crumble, too, I bet. HPH
