Default Ethanol Effect on Small Engines

My lawn mower and chain saw are testimony to this article.

I bought some Sta-Bil for Ethanol today to hopefully prevent the problem from reoccurring.

I was worried about the effect of E10 on my '68 Dodge Dart, but my mechanic told me it's not a problem due to the metals used in the Mopar engine. OTOH, he DID tell me to put a can of Sta-bil into the tank when I store the car for the winter.

EDIT: Thanks for the Pure-Gas locator link....found that there IS a garage near our cottage in York Springs PA; the only one in a 50 mile radius

My John Deere dealer advised me to add 1/2 oz. of Marvel Mystery oil to every fill up of my mower which holds three gallons of fuel. They claimed they had seen enough fuel related problems that they were now recommending adding MMO. After one year of regular use and multiple fill ups, I've had zero issues in my mower, trimmer or blower.

Does all gas at stations that post the little sign saying that ethanol is in the gasoline have the ethanol in it or is it just the lower octane gas?

Bastard EPA and the Federal Government!

That's interesting. I'll have to do a price comparison with SB. The trany on my 18 yr old Deere just died and I spent a good share of the night trying to find a used replacement. Interestingly once I was able to obtain the new part # since it changed I found I can get a brand new one for under $400 delivered. Better than a new machine.

I've had BAD luck with ethanol in the gas at the pump. Ruined a John Deere mower with only 60 hrs on it. I've found a web site that will list stations to get NON-ethanol-additives in gasoline at the pump. Here's the web site: http://pure-gas.org/ for US and Canada.I started using PURE gasoline in my S2000. Cost a little more but better power & mileage.
Good luck!

Quite the racket isn't it. We pay extra in income taxes to subsidize the corn growers, then, in turn, pay higher fuel taxes for the privileges of obtaining diluted fuel, poorer gas mileage as a direct result of that dilution, and the increased wear and tear on vehicles' engines. That wear and tear being caused by the presence of that same ethanol we're compelled to buy.
I bet Bernie Madoff is kicking himself for not thing of it first.
