I admittedly am a couch potato in the winter. The last two springs and summers I had every excuse in the book for not walking/exercising much. My shoulders hurt, I was wearing a sling, it's hot out, it's cold out, it's raining out, I'm going to PT, I'm too tired from PT, I need to do my at home PT....and on it went. Some of my excuses were valid, some days I was just lazy. I managed to find several pounds that I thought I had lost for good about 6 years ago.

I've no excuses now. Eat less, move more..............right after Legal Bill's pie party this Saturday.

Texas Jim, I hope those new parts are in good working order soon!

Thanks Lainey! I'll be graduating from pool therapy soon and going to more substantial (and painful-er) land-based PT. Today was evaluation and transition to new routine. The lady beat me up and -- well -- damned near keelt me! I'm beginning to understand the Marquis de Sade much better nowadays.

Jim I'm amazed that you had the two surgeries so close. You're a braver person than I. Good luck with the next round of PT. May you be able to "put your 'hands/arms in the air", (if told to by the cops) soon.

Since I finally got up the gumption to get on the scale a week ago, Sunday, I've been making an effort to eat less, enjoy less wine, hit the elliptical at the gym (since it's cold and rainy) and continue with my weight machine. I've dropped a bit over 2 pounds. Gotta keep it going.

One new trick I've used on myself to make the 7 miles on the gym elliptical less boring is to take a magazine (or book) along with my iPod. Reading really helps the time go by. It's hard not to have glare on the magazine pages though.

I've never been able to read and exercise at the same time.
The bouncing of my eyes bothers me too much.
I have a TV set up in the gym area and both the bike and treadmill face it.

^I didn't think I would be able to read either but I'm managing. Large type would help, though. The ellipticals at the gym are too far away from the TVs to see them well, although my headphones can plug into them to hear some of the channels.

Move over, Chubby. I've gained thirty pounds since meeting Rori. Her mother hasn't been helping matters either. It's time to dust off the treadmill and elliptical machine, I think.

That should be enough exercise until spring. Then you should probably start to use them.

I agree. We don't want to tax ourselves.

Yeah, I should probably use some caution and ease into things. I get winded eating ice cream.
