EZ Pass/Fast Pass
On the way to WV for SF05, Rick followed the caravan through the tool booth and we headed into the EZ Pass lane. (I told him he was in the wrong lane).
Anyway, I held up a dollar bill, and the nice man at the booth took my dollar and the nice state of PA never sent me a ticket. Ralper got a kick out of the whole thing, if I remember correctly.
Do you ever use the EZ Pass lane when you are not supposed to, maybe because you're too much in a hurry to wait in line? Have you ended up in the wrong line in error? Do you pay your ticket when you get it in the mail?
During the course of my employment I have paid EZ pass tickets/fines for various members of the boss' family. The most recent one a $10.00 toll which resulted in a $35.00 payment. I have my own views as to why some folks try to get away with it, but wonder if there are any here who will admit their bad behavior?
Disclaimer: This is not a scientific poll, nor am I reporting my findings to any Thruway authority. This is just internet drivel. My reason for being.

I don't have the pass, nor have I ever used one.
However a few years ago I got a "bill" in the mail that indicated my plate had been cought running one of the booths, ( somewhere around NY City). I had to call and file a complaint as to why it couldn't have been me, I've never been in the city my entire life! It turns out they asked my if I owned NY plate "TOP TEN", (Karla used to own a fingernail buisness by that name). I told them that I did have that vanity plate when NY had the old Liberty plates but I hadn't renewed it when the state switched plates, which was a year before I supposedly ran the booth. The person asked me if I knew where the plates were and I told them yes, they are hanging on the wall in my garage. They ended up dropping the charge.

Our family has a total of 4 EZ passes. IMHO, it's the best thing since sliced bread in Peeay. We can now use is all the way from Peeay thru NJ/ NY/ CT/ MA/ and on up to Maine!
Whenever I drive thru an EZ pass booth on the Peeay Trnpk, I scratch my head....
......wondering why 3/4 of the folks still like to wait in liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine to pay
There was a time that the monitor flashed "Call EZ Pass" instead of "Paid" or "GO"
It turned out that happens when the built-in battery starts to fade. Peeay EZ Pass sent us 2 new ones along with a postage paid envelope to return the old ones. It's one of those rare instances when the Peeay Bureaucracy was clicking on all 8 cylinders

I agree with Jerry, the EZ pass is the greatest thing. It's amazing it works so well considering it is a consortium of government agencies. It cuts at least 15 minutes off of the crossing via George Washington Bridge into New York. I love it. I love the new HI-SPEED EZ pass lanes too.
On my way to the Vintage Gathering the EZ pass on the NY Thruway didn't read my EZ pass. Last week I got a note in the mail from the NY Thruway Authority that I owed $15.50 toll and $40.00 in penalty. The camera had photographed my "Fastest" license plate, but I had never registered that plate with NY EZ Pass. (My EZ pass is from NY from the days that I lived there, but my plates are from NJ).
I called and since this was my first offense, the penalty could be waved but I still had to pay the $15.50 toll (which was the toll from the furthest spot) if I paid within 15 days. I suppose I could have fought the toll down to what it should have been, but I didn't have the time. I sent a check for $15.50. I hope thats the end of it.

Y'know, it's amazing. All these years, and I never think to get this done. It's not a big deal.
The truth is, it would help me the MOST at the times when I do travel the roads covered by EZ-Pass... Weekends, etc., when occasionally those tolls back up, EZ-Pass lanes are usually clear.
WHat can I say? I agree it's the greatest thing (and getting better too as the technology is now able to allow you to drive through at full speed), but I can never remember to get one.

If the MA site is like PA, then it literally takes about 10 minutes on-line to sign-up! In Peeay they take $35 from your CC to start up the acct...followed by another $35 when the balance reaches a certain point. The transponders come in the mail in about a week...and you're good to go
You should put this on the 'do' list for Friday after Turkey Day. You won't be sorry
