Default Facial recognition software and its usage - Do you support it?

There’s been a controversy about facial recognition. Its benefits and negative impacts remain a bit of a muddled mess.

Facial recognition has been used as a means of solving crime by identifying those that pose risks. The US Border Control uses the system to streamline and identify those crossing our boarders and for those felons(?) walking among us. It’s also used by certain high dollar retailers that pay those that collect your facial images (without your knowledge) for sales incentives and other sales perks.

Just curious. What do you think of the facial recognition software and its usage?

at the risk of the instant move to politics...
I don't like it anymore than I like speed cameras.
what are the consequences of an incorrect operation or identification?
you're driving down the road and a camera 'pics you out." Hey you're that cop killer they been looking for.
The next thing you now a dozen swat cars have you surrounded with a bunch of trigger happy hardened cops are just waiting for you to make the wrong move, like reaching for your cell phone....

All to often people come to trust the systems a little too much.

I just ordered a new Lenovo X1 Carbon notebook. One of the security options offered was facial recognition instead of a fingerprint. You have to have an HD camera with IR.

I kind of went sour on them when the Fort Hood shooter's picture was released and everyone at work thought it was me for a minute. Definitely one of the last people I'd like to be mistaken for

It is surprising when you find you have already been nailed. I have simply walked up to the gate (working a flight as crew) and instead of having the agent inspect my ID vs the digital crew list, I have been informed I have already been "checked in" because I have been positively identified by the camera (not readily apparent) and matched me to the TSA and crew list. Rather shocking, frankly. I have never, ever submitted to any program to readily identify myself in such manner. I am part of Global Entry but other pilots who are not part of the program are also identified automatically by visual AI at the the gate.

It is a new world.

When Costco credit cards arrived, they had my picture on them. I signed up for Pandora and was quite surprised (and dismayed) to see them have some strange picture of me and a few goofy tidbits of personal information. I have never, ever uploaded a picture of myself to any online anything. I am not on any social media. All I can think of is someone else loaded a picture and tagged me.
