Jerry, what is this mens group? Is it related to the church? Or another organization?
Carmen, I think I've spoken about this before...in fact there was a thread in the early days of Vintage. In any event, it's a group of about 15 guys (8-12 show up on any given Saturday). We meet at our church, but there are some who are not church attendees or members; in fact Lee and Neil were born as Jews but switched later. A Jew or Muslim would certainly be welcome.

Ages generally range from late 40's to mid-70s; we've got 2 MDs, 2 attorneys, a mortgage broker, 2 architects , a veternarian, 2 engineer/ business types, an investment advisor for Morgan Stanley, an insurance exec, an administrator for an actuarial firm,

We meet from 7 am to 8:30 am, so there is rarely conflict with family plans. We do a brief 'check in' at the start and talk about a topic-of-the-day: sometimes it's pre-assigned, sometimes based on what someone needs to talk about. 1-2 members per year might join; while another 1-2 move on to something else.

Currently, we are discussing (very slowly ) chapters from the book The Road Less Traveled and Beyond. We usually have a 'retreat' at the end of the year (June) when most of the group convene at our weekend cottage or another guy's cottage along the Susquehanna in northeast Peeay.

There are religion underpinnings, but it's definitely not a 'bible study'. It's a real support group....fairly rare among guys Some version of this group has been going on for over 10 years at our large suburban church.

That pretty much covers it

I agree with celebrating the lives of our friends and loved ones once they pass on. We hate to see them go but are so glad to have had them in our lives for however long. My prayers are with you as you mourn and celebrate your friend and can even see humor in some things.

Besides, if YOU'RE old, what does that make ME? Can't wait to see you at the next meet. Hang tough there, buddy.

I hang around with you old (s), don't I?

I only felt old for a little bit there, Granny.
I'm still smiling, Granny! I just took a moment to reflect on something new. I do that sometimes.

I know, honey and that was just my feeble attempt to help cheer you up some. I always feel my age after funerals. I'm down here burying 22 year olds, which is even sadder, but it's always sad, no matter what age. You'll be all right. (cyber pat, pat, pat) Keep smiling!

Jonas, I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. I think it is wonderful that you and the rest of the group were able to celebrate his passing in such a unique and meaningful way.
