FiOS v. Cable
I have had total Comcast [phone, tv, internet] for two years and am pleased. I think I've had three service calls during that period, one to replace a phone modem, and two involving in-house wire replacements. In all cases the servicemen were helpful and knowledgeable. Their call center assistance can vary for poor to great.... but that's probably normal for most of today's service.
I've had minimal probs with Comcast tv and internet. We are on the end of the line on our dead end street and my internet service is slightly slower than some people's. I've had almost no service problems and find that Comcast reponds as quickly as can be expected. We lose power regularly due to downed trees in high winds or ice storms so we still keep our landline phone which is through Verizon. There is no high speed internet service available in our area except Comcast.
In SC I have Timewarner cable and internet. I find their service is almost never down, the computer is fast even though I opted for the slower internet and I have no complaints. At some point I will investigate using the internet for phone service in SC, but will stay with a landline at home.

I had Comcast since 1999 (back when it was the @home service) until 3 months ago, when I switched to FiOS.
Technically, I much prefer FiOS. No HD signal compression, faster Internet, and cheaper International phone service.
Verizon's customer service is awful, so if you have billing problems, beware. I ended up emailing the CEO of Verizon Communications to finally get a billing problem resolved.
The other thing I like with FiOS is that you get a free home network. I dumped my Linksys router, as I was getting a much stronger signal with the FiOS modem.

Just getting back to work so thank you folks for all the helpful input. I have heard about the terrible customer service at Verizon but the other stuff was news to me. Don't know what I'd do without you guys.
Decisions decisions.
Decisions decisions.
It is a big decision. My recent internet modem problems were a huge PIA and customer service was terrible.
I prefer Verizon for some reasons, but purchasing their phone service, and internet, then ComCast for cable costs too much $.
My pricing program is up with Verizon in May. I'll call them and see what kind of deal they can make to keep me as a customer. If they continue on with what I have now, I'll probably stay with them. FIOS is not in my area yet.

But the 21st century marches on.

What happens is when I call to drop cable, they come up with a special program to lower my rate and I get mad because they should have been offering it all along and end up sticking with them in spite of myself. Compared to what I have now, it's all looking very expensive to me.

But the 21st century marches on.Right now, both companies get some of our business, we'll see what happens in May.
I'm probably spending about $200 a month for Time Warner and Comcast, but have no other options IF I want cable tv and the internet in both places I frequent.
Some day I need to figure out how to whittle that figure down.
Val, our monthly cost is about $125.00+ for one house. Your price is "fair" though I know what you are saying, it adds up.
Right now I have Cable @$62.00 Phone and internet at $65.00, and the phone and internet are at "reduced" prices until May. The cable bundle is just over $100.00, but I just haven't made the switch and we know they only give you the bundle price for a limited time.
Add in cell phone costs and the money we all spend to stay connected sure adds up.

Not too long ago, my total package for all 3 was $70/mo.
But I agree, we do spend a lot to stay connected. Wasn't there once some guy on here who didn't even have a TV in his house?
