It was a fun show. Watch the movie (Serenity) after watching the series.

I have the movie too. I totally love it and signed a zillion petitions back "in the day" when the show was cancelled. Guess that makes me one of the original Browncoats.

A coworker turned me on to this show a couple years ago. He had all the tv episodes and the movie. I'd love to see the series back in production. Or another movie.

And bring back Shepherd Book. We never did find out about the more mysterious elements of his past.

Book was obviously a former government agent. Perhaps the same type as that "Agent Of Parliament" who is the main bad guy in Serenity. He clearly has a special ops background.

Wikipedia says that a follow-on comic book gives this background:

His background is explored further in the comic book Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale. Book was born Henry Evans, a boy who was raised by an abusive father. He ran away from home and began life as a petty criminal before being recruited by the Independence movement and moving out to the Border Worlds. Long before the Alliance begins the Unification War, forward-thinking Browncoats assign Evans to be a long-term mole. He sheds his old identity by killing a random passerby and stealing his identification card, becoming Derrial Book. His Browncoat superiors keep tabs on him by surgically removing one of his eyes and replacing it with an artificial camera. He joins the Alliance military and quickly moves up in rank. Becoming an officer, Book intentionally leads a risky operation that results in a humiliating defeat for the Alliance. He is forced to retire from the Alliance military. It is implied that the Alliance covers up the loss, therefore not officially punishing Book. Homeless, he visits a soup kitchen and finds God while contemplating a bowl of soup. He takes refuge at an abbey where he becomes a shepherd before leaving on the Serenity to become a missionary.

I thought you were talking about the real fireflies. Seen the real ones once in my life on a family trip 1980 to Batesville Indiana to see where my grandfather grew up

Owell sorry for the off topic

I was upset they killed Wash in the movie. If anyone on board deserves to die, it's Jayne. For all the crap Josh Whedon has had on TV for six or seven seasons, I find it amazing that Firefly only lasted for one.

You can thank the Fox execs who never understood the concept or how to handle it.

Even dedicated Firefly fans had a tough time figuring out when the episodes were going to be aired, because they were constantly being pre-empted and/or shuffled to new timeslots. And Fox apparently had no clue that airing them out of order might just possibly be confusing. Plus, the series had a two-hour pilot which was supposed to introduce everything to the viewers, but Fox decided it would be better to not air that pilot. Then, AFTER they had canceled the series, they decided to finally air the pilot anyway.

It was the most f-ed up TV programming decision ever. Lots of good shows have been canceled, but none have even been so thoroughly mangled before the network got around to canceling them.
