Interesting article about living two weeks without using credit cards. I'd have probably given up the cash only prospect at the gas pump. :

I still use cash for most small purchases, the +1 prefers plastic.

I pretty much use plastic for anything over $5. It would be tough to go back to cash. If anything, I'd like to go cash-less. Plastic works for me because I maintain a budget and have never paid interest.

I'd like to live cash only, but reallllllly hate paying in advance for gasoline. I'll probably always use a card for gas. I would like to go cash only for other things. I've managed to swipe the card only for gas so far, but we're like . . . only six days into 2010.

^^^I tend to stay away from the pre-paid gas stations around here.

I've never used a credit card for gas. Not sure why. Just don't. But then I'm not getting gas often. Right now, I'm managing to live for a few days without my credit card. The new card should be arriving shortly, since the number was issued Mon. But, as I said in the fraud thread, I only have one. Works well for me.

We generally use cash for gas unless traveling. Our local gas station does not require pre-payment for gas.

We pay cash when we eat out and for small purchases. Debit card gets used for groceries, prescriptions and the like. Credit card is generally for larger purchases, on line purchases and travel.

I have a few store issued credit cards which sometimes allows additional discounts, and we have two major credit cards. I also take two credit cards when we travel.

I'm like conedodger, I use credit cards most of the time and pay in full each month. My credit card pays 4% back on gasoline, 3% back on movies, 2% on food/restaurants, and 1% on everything else. If you are going to spend the money anyway, why not get something back?

Credit cards also show you where your money is going.

Gas is cheaper with the discount the card gets me. More importantly, I don't have to set foot inside the station! I will not stop at a station that does not accept cards at the pump.
