Front loading washing machines
It appears many folks with front loading washing machines have a problem with odors. I know this has been talked about on this forum. Here's an article which may be of interest.
The clothes are clean ... but what's that smell?
Stinky front-loading, high-efficiency washers give consumers ‘the willies’
When you buy a new washing machine, you don’t expect it to stink up your house. But that seems to be a common problem for people who own high-efficiency front-loading washers.

I've never encountered that problem with the Asko during the three years I've had it, but after I read about the odor issue, I leave the door open for awhile after unloading the wash. So far, so good.
If you don't leave the door open after washing and dry off both sides of that big seal, you're going to get that sour smell. We had to solve that problem of the frontloader washer following us through the house though.
Lainey I had that problem with the Maytag Neptune washer I inherited when I bought the house. I found paper work left by the previous owners where they'd replaced parts to deal with the stink. The washer was breaking down though, so I bought a new one. It will be a year old in January and it's fine but like John says, I always leave the door open after a wash for it to dry out.
Speaking of problems with washers, I know I'm not the only one here who bought the LG WM2016CW .

So, this washer works great but when the soap is dispensed, it has quick bursts of water to rinse it out of the pull out drawer it's poured into. (The little drawer on the left in the photo above.) In the last 2 months, my house was having some plumbing issues involving banging, rattling and squeaking pipes. After asking around and getting no where, I called my State Farm insurance agent and he recommended a reliable plumber to come check it out. My water heater supplies had marble flow restrictors in the pipes, that were making noise. Ryan, the plumber, said these washers don't do well with those restrictors so he replaced the hoses and left them out. The toilet downstairs was also making tons of racket with banging and hissing so he replaced parts in it. I also had slapping sounds coming from the back of the refrigerator so he tapped the water lines to the back. All this, I believe was caused by the surging in the water lines due to this washing machine. Everything is fine now and I'm relieved. I was afraid I'd have a pipe burst and flood the house. Before Ryan listened to the noises I was describing (by starting the washer and listening as it would surge water into the soap dispenser) he thought he'd have to open a wall to secure the banging pipes.

That is call "water hammer". It is caused by opening and closing a water valve quickly. I will make pipes jump like crazy and can break solder joints. There are devises that can be put in the water lines to help reduce the hammering.
