Default Future Resting Place Plan

If this topic has been discussed before, my apologies. A while back, I received a mailer with $500 Credit Certificate towards preened property from a local business specializing in Memorial Gardens, Mausoleums, and Funeral Home. I know this can be a sensitive topic but what are your thoughts regarding this? Have you made any plans already or are you thinking about it? For me and my wife, I am seriously thinking about making an appointment for a consultation. I never thought about cremation but it's something I am going to consider. I never thought I would have to think about this eventuality but perhaps it is better to plan for this sooner than later. What are some things that should be considered as you plan this?

Yes, we own a final resting place for 2 in a above ground building. My wife’s Mom and Dad and aunt and uncle are there as well. My wife’s brother and wife also have a drawer there. We chose not to have our names on the front of the crypt until we are in there. We are up high so our flowers don’t get stolen. We told the kids to bring a ladder.

Great reply, Ray All of our parents were cremated, so that's our plan too. All except one of them had ashes scattered by us, but Kathy's mom got a mini-plot for her URN in our church's memorial garden. We had a brief chat with our kids about location of our remains, and was surprised that they might like to have "us" in a place that they can "visit"....like the church location. It's likely that's what we will do.

I know that I'm getting old (older) now that I get mail weekly from local cemeteries. Then again, I'm in Palm Beach County, FL. I spent much of my youth and adult years on Candlewood Lake in CT every summer. Lived and kept my boat there for 40+ years and had a "favorite cove" on the lake where I hung out with friends and family. My wishes, known to my wife/children is to be cremated and have my ashes scattered in that cove.

i'll be a little here and there.
Maybe at a golf course of my favor, but unlike folks who want to be near the green, put them in the woods where I spent most of my time.

We have a trust so that whomever survives doesn't have to go through probate and will have funds necessary to continue living in a somewhat decent manner. Part of that is burial or cremation and we both chose to be cremated. Creating a trust is a simple matter, it makes your wishes known and limits the confusion.

Sandy and I have been talking about finding an attorney who specializes in elder law to set up some formal plans for our final years. We need to get off our butts and do it.

I would like to donate my remains to science, whether that means being dissected at a med school or being left to decay in the open as part of a post mortem study. I won't care and I like the idea that I could be more useful in death than I was in life.

I am a registered organ donor but given my age that would be like donating parts from a 12 year old BMW.

I want to be cremated and scattered. My mom was and three of us kids spilt up her ashes, spreading them where we wanted to. My dad was Neptune Society and his ashes were spread at sea.

I know I don't want to be buried, guaranteed, no way worms are going to eat me. I'm Italian and everyone in our community tends to go above ground in a mausoleum, but I think I am good with cremation, I don't mind heat, and I don't want visitations so it fits my needs.
