Hope all your planting goes well. I'm sure your yard is much more attractive than your neighbor's.

Hope it all works out Val. We been trying to save a Pink Dogwood all summer long. We think it got too acidity from the Oaks, so we've been trying to counter that. TBD.
Thanks, Dave. We are not doing this because we wanted to just change things up. Our neighbor to the rear suddenly decided he wanted to clearcut the area that borders our property and our new view is now dirt and his heatpumps. He totally ruined his yard and only plans to put in grass so we're having to do this to preserve our view. We really resent what he did, but its his property so we really cannot complain. His view is of my flowers, fountain, etc. so he's quite happy. The view from our windows is sickening, hence the large holly trees. If your oak is a red oak, then there is a toxic area around that tree that affects many plants. They emit juglone to preserve themselves and it can cause other things to fail. I fight that with all the hickory trees we have here, so I have to be certain whatever I plant is impervious to juglone.
We have two huge black oaks about 25 feet away. We still are not sure if that is the issue since the pink dogwood has been there since 2006 and its just started dying in the past 12 months or so.

We have a wide variety of trees spread around the include three white oaks, shake back hickory, american cherry, wild cherry, eleven black locus, american elm, a couple norway maples, eastern white pine, and a kousa dogwood. Sadly, we had to cut down over two dozen ash trees because of disease.

We certainly think so, MsP. People have different tastes and we'd prefer to create more privacy and not look directly into his yard. The trees should be delivered soon. If they get here before Saturday, they'll go in on Saturday, weather permitting. Looking forward to it being done.
