golfers question
on Saturday, We were playing at a course in Vermont.
on the 8th tee box our foursome was approached by the staff and asked to speed it up.
I have had cases when this had occurred before but we knew it was a Saturday so we had been pushing along already.
I was especially annoyed when we got off of the front nine and realized we had just played in 2:05.
Am I being overly sensitive or do they have their collective heads where the sun don't shine and I'm within my rights to be really annoyed by the whole thing?

4 hours for 18 is a good pace. We have a course where we live and there are a number of golfers who try to play "speed" golf. It is as though they do not enjoy the game but feel obligated to be out there. They hit as fast as they can and then hustle off to the next hole.
I love golf, being outdoors, sunny day, good cigar, and if they have an issue with how fast I play I always invite them to play through.

I believe that proper etiquette is to keep the same pace as the group in front of you. When you started there was propbably a group on the green of hole one. If you had no gaps between you and that group they have no complaint. If there is a gap that wasn't there before then you are not keeping pace and should be gently nudged. Your time to play did not seem slow but at some courses time of play may be shorter or longer depending on the course and the regular clientele. I know I hate slow play but I wouldn't consider your time slow.

LB, how many other things do you do annually that you hate?
IMHO: If a foursome plays 9 in about 2 hours they are playing fast enough. If a faster group comes up behind they should be invited to play through, unless the course ahead is already full.

I play in a senior group and sometimes it takes 5 hours to play a round. The problem is that they forget where they parked their golf cart, forget their score so they ask the guys they are playing with to recount every shot with them while standing on the green, forget their clubs which they left on the green and forget to take their flomax so they are off peeing in the woods on every friggin hole. I'm starting to hate Golf too Bill.

I worked at a small course (6400 yards and 72 rating) in Jersey and 4.5 hours was normal. On a normal day we would suggest being 1 or 2 shots behind the group in front. If there was no group in front but a line of groups behind we would ask you to pick up the pace a little. This worked almost every time. Most became self conscious enough after the warning that they would pick it up noticeably.
