The GOOD news thread
Been called 3 times including this last one, selected twice. First case (about 2002) was an open-and-shut case of a burglary at a college chemistry lab that was a true comedy of stupidity, so quite entertaining. 2024 was a multiple child abuse case that would have probably broken me emotionally if the accused hadn't changed her plea just before it started.
It would be okay for a short trial , like 2-5 days, but we had some big motorcycle gang murder trials going on in our region and I could have been stuck there for a long time if I got selected for one of those.
Federal:
"Most district courts offer permanent excuses from service, on individual request, to designated groups of persons or occupational class on grounds that service by such class or group would entail undue hardship or extreme inconvenience to the members thereof. Such groups may include persons over age 70"
State (Circuit) and County
"Mississippi has a statutory exemption that allows individuals over a certain age to request exemption from jury duty. Any citizen over 65 years of age may claim this personal privilege and be exempt from serving on a jury."
Sandy has been called and does not want to seek an exemption. It's either Circuit or County Court.
If she is selected to serve, I hope she can stay awake. She falls asleep to Law and Order all the time.
I would seek an exemption. My hearing, even with my hearing aids, has reached the point where I would not make a good juror.
