A Good Read
I'm sure many of you enjoy reading a really good book and we probably have varied tastes and interests in reading material. Occasionally I come across a book that was such a good read that I'd like to share thoughts/feelings about it. Recently I read All Over but the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg, about his life growing up in the deep South. Have any of you read it? Or . . . have any of you read something lately worthy of recommendation?
I love Ferrol Sams' Run with the Horseman. First in a trilogy of a young boy's (Porter Osborne, Jr.) life growing up in the South during the depression era. I'm about to re-read all three.
Also love anything by Jean Shepherd.

Good idea for a thread, Val! I enjoy anything by Grisham. Right now I'm readin a rather humurous book by Mike Lupica called "Wild Pitch". Anyone that is a baseball fan, I would truly recommend it.
I enjoy Grisham's work as well and I I've read most of his books (I did not care for A Painted House. I think reading is exercise for the brain and helps keep us from premature senility

I'll admit A Painted House was much different than his other works, but I enjoyed it none the less. I just finished Testament by Grisham, wonderful story. Have you read any by Richard North Patterson? Similar style to Grisham, and he's a hometown boy for me.
No -- I have not read Richard North Patterson, but thanks for telling me about him. I'm always looking for new good authors -- unfortunately they don't write fast enough for me. I recently read the new Dean Koontz book and enjoy his flights of fantasy. My favorite is Watchers (I think that was his first big best seller) and From the Corner of His Eye was a superb pleasure. An eye-opener that I read last year was Nickel and Dimed (on Not getting by in America) by Barbara Ehrenreich -- it was a powerful true picture of what undereducated Americans have to do to survive.
