Default Handguns, rifles and shotguns

I know some of you own guns. I'm wondering what you recommend. I'd like your thoughts on semi automatic shotguns, semi automatic pistols, revolvers and rifles. The more info you can share on why you like one particular manufacturer and model over another would be appreciated. If you don't want to post publicly, feel free to send me a PM.

Those that want to talk about gun control and political issues in connection with guns, there is an active thread in the politics sub forum. Please post there so this thread does not get moved.

LB, it depends on the intended use and people tend to go with what feels good to them. I like the colt 45 semi-auto, but I haven't shot for several years.

You go girl!! I think the 1911 Colt is a great piece. How was the kick on that?

Jon, I shot sporting clays a while back and really enjoyed myself. It is golf with shotguns. Only the clays died.

Never show at a living thing... but have put numerous holes in targets with my 9mm Springfield XD.

Its also neat to shoot up water bottles or gallon jugs with a 22 rifle.....

Only shot a shotgun for one day.... sporting clays..... beginners luck... 1st clay got in the way of whatever I shot and disappeared! Rest of the day was so so...

As others have said... the type of gun needed, is based on what you plan to do with it.....

I'm a 9mm Glock fan, fun reliable range gun. We have a couple Gen4's. We have a 380 sig sauer, a 380 walther ppk, a 380 kel-tec. Both my wife and I have ccw's.

ps I have a sweet AK47, nice post hurricane gun and an Ithaca slug thrower. It's faster than an automatic. I've heard Benelli's are a great auto shotgun.

Whatever you get PLEASE lock it up. This has been a top story around here for the past few days:

Michigan State Police believe a 3-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself to death this week was able to get a hold of his father’s gun by getting to the top of a bedroom dresser.

“The dresser was believed to be out of reach of the children,” said Michigan State Police 1st Lt. Michael Krumm, commander of the Jackson post.

Krumm said state police completed their investigation on Friday, March 8, and concluded Michael Easter's death was accidental.

“There is nothing at all in this incident that would lead us to have any suspicion of anything else,” Krumm said and called the case “tragic.”

Michael, the son of Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Easter, died Saturday. Police were called about 5:30 p.m. to the family home on S. Jackson Road.

The loaded handgun was registered to Mark Easter, Krumm said, and the weapon sat at the back of the top of the dresser, which stood more than 4 feet tall.

How Michael managed to get to it is not clear.

A drawer at the bottom of the dresser was partially open and there was a gun cleaning table nearby, Krumm said. “You can speculate he climbed one of those items, or jumped over from the bed.”
