Honda took a long time to jump into the SUV market as well as the minivan market, but they brought in good products (with the Pilot and the 2nd gen Odyssey)...

I agree, Rob, that it's way early to get worried about this.

Well, I can tell you this... If they don't start pulling out the stops, they're gonna get trounced by Toyota. Toyota's a giant, but it seems like they've been looking VERY carefully at Honda the last few years.

CORNER: Wahoooooooo
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

My biggest complaint about Honda is their almost total ignoring of the opportunity presented by www.s2ki.com

Grovelling about the trademark issues, sneaking around this board and then using the new ideas to year-by-year upgrade and improve their product but never giving any support or encouragement Wow, we get Woodwork as presentation speaker at FC 03.....double WOW WOW

There....how's that for a little Honda bashing

Sorry that's not a corner...you need to get off the amatuer version and into the pro version (corner every 50 posts instead of 25)...

Now back to the subject...Toyota is a great car company we have owned 2 of them. BUT, we were looking at a Celica GTS to trade in the civic (not our current civic) for. When we took it out for a test drive, we were both disappointed and agreed that the civic "felt" like the better car. The transmission was much better in the civic and the engine was more planted (ie under power shifting, you could feel the engine moving - it actually clunked).

We have a Civic SiR (Si to you 'mericans) and the ONLY car that I have driven that has a better feeling transmission is the S2000.

I don't think we can fairly say that Honda is loosing it because sales of the Civic are slipping. There is much more to be considered.

The flip side - I would like to see them craft some "cooler" cars.

Why do I post this...because I still believe Honda has the quality to attract customers...just not as often because thier cars last longer (as do Toyotas).

Besides...like pas2k states...Honda is using our comments to improve the S2000, what makes you think they are not trolling the other boards and doing the same? Maybe they are giving us what we want???

Yeah make civics cool again! I used to love those cars up till 92 when they dramatically redesigned. They were fun, zippy little cars that were not all that expensive. I just don't see that with current civics.

I'll repeat myself and say that AE is not a guy with a grudge against Honda. I've been a fan for years. He is calling it as he see it. You certainly do not have to agree with him but I can tell you that he has something like 32,000 people reading his site every week and a great deal of them are auto manufacturing insiders. He doesn't pull his punches with any manufacturer -- and that's what I love. No candy covered messages because of a sponsor's pressure. When he's wrong, he's the first to admit it. Too windy; you bet. Repeats the same points too often; you bet. But, he's trying to change peoples mind sets within structured environments - especially the manufacturer's who too often only hear the filtered BS from within. And, believe me, he get's insider's scoops on the QT about issues from within these companies.

Unlike so many here it seems, this is just my second Honda (the first being 21 years ago). We've owned three Nissan's, two Toyota's, two Subaru's, and oh yes, an Acura - so I don't have that one brand loyality thing going on. In fact, all were or are exceptional cars - so I wouldn't rate one manufacturer as any better than the other. Since my experience has been good with all of them, I'm looking for car's with something extra to offer. Something to get emotional about and that tugs the heart strings when I see it and drive it. I can tell that there's nothing beyond the S2000 in Honda's lineup at the moment that does it for me and I'm getting into the "I want a new car for a daily driver" mood, so I'm looking.
