Has your computer been infected by the Mydoom virus?
I've received a number of e-mails which I suspect carry this virus. I haven't opened them, and so far I, with the help of Norton AntiVirus, have been lucky. Has anyone been infected? If so, what did it do?
I've aways wondered why people do this. Any ideas?

At work we are stopping them every few seconds. This virus seems to have gotten around pretty well. If you get infected you should follow the advice of the major AV software mfg's. They'll tell you how to clean it up.
Some of our campuses have been infected. The virus starts spewing copies of itself out to everyone in your address book, opens up a backdoor into your computer & attempts to do a denial of service attack on a remote web site.
This hacking & virus crap is a major PITA. It basically means that IT people like me are working 24 hours/day.

Rob, I think stuff like this is done by people who are bored but very smart (hackers) and who get their kicks wreaking havoc on a global scale just because they can. Seems like a form of terrorism to me.

This virus somehow hit the campus at Va. Tech and really screwed up the entire network there. Lots of kids got nailed as well as the main server!!! I use anti-virus software from trend-micro that has worked for me so far, but . . . one never knows. It looks like my computer comes under attack multiple times throughout every day, but my firewall blocks the attacks. My old computer got nailed a couple of times before the anti-v software became so much better, but the villains are working 24/7!!! I delete more mail than I open and only open things from people I know, but I have all my mail scanned anyway.
