Default Hey I thought Macs didn't have this problem

Trojan-Dr-Web-Flashback-MAc-OS-X-Botnet,

it seems there are now finally enough macs out there to be worth writing a virus for.

Typically when we hear the word "malware" or "trojan," the Windows PC or Android platform come to mind. But now Apple's built-in deflector shield in its Mac OS X platform has proven to be not quite so resistant after all, as Russian antivirus company Dr. Web is now claiming that more that 600,000 Macs -- most of which reside in the States and Canada -- are infected with a trojan horse virus called "Flashback," or rather, "BackDoor.Flashback.39."
Looks like Apple needs to re-route power to the OS X deflector shield, as alien code is beaming in despite the company's "we've better than Windows" stance.

Yep Steve's gone and the Apples have worms.

I think it was predestined. I saw a thing on Discover about the Mayan calendar.

The Appledoom is upon us!!

Steps to check and fix:

Mac's from time to time have had a virus, this is not the first. Here's some history:

To be fair, this was a Java vulnerability and not an OS X hole.

Unfortunately, the biggest problem with Mac's and viruses is that Apple refuses to acknowledge that there are viruses (and Trojans) that successfully infect Mac's. Because of this denial of reality, it sometimes takes Apple months to release patches to fix problems and vulnerabilities. It took over 3 months for Apple to admit that this virus existed and create a fix. (and yes, I know it's a Java vulnerability, but Apple is responsible for closing the gaping holes that exist in the security structure. MS fixed this vulnerability much quicker than Apple). And before anyone gets hyper, I own 4 Macs and two iPads (I also run, and have been running, anti-virus/anti-spyware software since the day I bought my first Mac).

I turned off Java, but didn't do it till yesterday. As for protection I need to install some, I was planning on downloading ClamXav from their site. Your thoughts?

My guess is that now that relatively speaking there are more than a handful of Apple devices out there there are "Bad Guys" that have turned their attention to Apple Products. As one that has had their PC taken out by the Win 7 2012 virus in which the creators try to hold one hostage to sell you the fix to the problem that they created I hope that all of the people that write viruses and WORMS rot in hell, for making other people's lives miserable.

I use Eset and McAfee but ClamXav is good (and the price is right ). Any protection is better than none and there are too many people who think Macs are invulnerable to viruses and trojans. We call those people gullible.

I downloaded ClamXav but it did not work properly; sometimes you get what you pay for.

I am trying to decide between Eset or IntegoBarrierX6 which a friend suggests.

got ClamX to work after all; thankfully a full check showed nothing.
