Leather dries. We have had 2.45 inches of rain in the last 3 days. The Santa Cruz mountains were supposed to have 4 inches just today. Sunday is supposed to be nice.

I just want some sunshine so Jerry and I can go out and play with our RC cars. We never had a chance last weekend before the rain started on Sunday. Everything will be muddy though so we may have to go to a deserted auto dealership, if it stops raining long enough this weekend.

And the rain keeps falling. At my office today, we received emergency warnings from the local police department. When I came a short while ago, there was a police vehicle with flashing lights just inside my tract and a caution sign for flooding on my street. I stopped and pondered for a minute and decided to go for it. Since I was driving my SUV (aka, sport utility van..aka the Ody), I decided to go for it and was able to make it even though the street was totally under H2O. Had I been in the S2K, no way as the water had crested the curb.

We'll be the recipient of the pineapple express starting this weekend as were supposed to get a good wallop of rain.
And that's ok as I generally find a lot less need to shovel rain and I don't have to pay the plow guy to get rid of it.

My spa is at the overflow level. Any more rain flows out an overflow pipe in the side. I am enjoying this. It's so uncommon for us.

I had to put out my trash can and some large items for special pick-up yesterday, in the cold rain. It was about 49* F and my hands were cold. I know that weather would be a piece of cake for you, boltonblue but it made me wonder how really cold it is for you easterners. In Acton I was used to having freezing temps every night in the winter. Not here. It'll be two years for me here in Orange County of So Cal on March 1st and I've gotten used to the moderate temps.

I'm OK so far. I did a little sandbagging yesterday on a slope in my backyard. The neighbor up the hill from me has a fence that concentrates all of the flow from his yard to mine into one small spot. I directed that flow onto some plastic sheeting so it wouldn't erode the slope anymore. I have a nice little spring that has popped up near the side of the house. It worries me that there's that much ground water looking for a place to go just 4 feet from my cellar wall. So far the cellar is staying dry though.

The fire department has a swift water rescue crew stationed in the canyon this week. They were called out last night to rescue people from a stranded car where our creek over topped the highway. No injuries.

The one road into our town is covered with mud. County road crews are going back and forth keeping it scraped, but if two cars need to pass each other you need to get off into the thick stuff. I didn't need the 4WD on my truck, but I was doing some sliding. Things are worse out at the end of the road. There is a small tributary creek that drains some very steep slopes that were very heavily burned. Every rain brings a lot of debris down that creek, fills up its culvert under the road, and then runs down the road looking for another route to the main creek. The road is thick with mud and rocks up to about head sized. That's still better than May '08 when it filled a few houses with mud. I'm glad I didn't buy up there.

The next big wave of rain seems to be arriving now. I wish I had a fireplace. On a day like this posts should be written from a recliner in front of a fire.

From better days...

I'm just left of center down in the fog.

Just got a reverse 911 call telling me that there is a flash flood warning here for the next 40 minutes. Debris flows expected. I guess I won't go for a walk.
