Hey Maury
>>> 13.Not every punk in a sports car wants to race me.
That one makes me laugh. On the way to Nor'Easter I pulled out of a rest area at the same time as a youngish guy in a hot 2 door Toyota with a big ass wing.
I was thinking, hey this could be a fun group drive the rest of the way there
So I zoom up behind, pull out to pass, and hang in the passing lane for a second to wave, speed up and .....
nothing! That was it... he didn't want to play
What's wrong with kids these days???

I was at the dealer yesterday and almost took one out, just to play.
I don't know if it's just a New England deal but have you gotten treated like a snob because your driving a Benz yet?
I was curious about the contrast in driving experience but you put in the caveat of not pushing the car. I would insert the comment about driving like a girl here but I've seen Patty and Ellen drive.
and Dave,
yes the oil change is at 10K but with the FSS it usually works out to be closer to 12 to 13K. of course it is a 9 quart pan of Mobil1.
So I suspect on the SLK that's once a year not based on mileage.

Thank you Jerry
Here's one of my favorite drives

Heading to NH from the Boston car show last Sunday, I saw a woman driving a snazzy white Merc convertible (CLK500, does that sound right?) She and her guy both gave me a thumbs up which I returned.
Sadly, the guy in the Lambo did NOT feel the need to return my wave

Going out on a limb here...and not to offend my dearest Vintage friends, but the SLK is one fine car. I think the important thing to remember is that I am not a performance kind of guy the only mod I ever put on the S were new speakers. But in all other areas I am much happier in the Benz.
1. The ride is much more comfortable.
2. I don't mind stopping and starting in traffic
3. Memory seats with a million different combinations including the passenger seat.
4. A much quieter ride when the hardtop is up.
5. Heated seats
6. Heated headrests
7. Much better radio and direct ipod connector.
8. Emergency road side assistance.
9. Small differences like one touch up and down on windows, adjustable steering wheel.
10.Same size trunk when top is down, full size when top is up.
11.Handling about the same.
12.Comfort mode and sport mode. Comfort mode gives you a much smoother ride while the sports mode seems to tighten everything up and allow those tight turns
13.Not every punk in a sports car wants to race me.
14.Pickup trucks don't tailgate me, maybe they think I'm an attorney.
15.Bluetooth setup for driving and radio volume goes down when making a phone call.
16.Windshield wipers that turn on automatically when starting to rain and adjust to variable speed depending on the amount of rain.
17.No clutch but still can go through the gears with a bump shifter.
18.A babe magnet for the over 40 crowd.
19.Oil change every 10,000 miles.
20.Can put the top up and down from outside the car.
All in all I love the SLK and it's ride and performance, but not as much as my Vintage friends. I am sure to be flamed for the above but I can take it.
Thanks for asking!

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Use it well.
Maury, it sounds just like what I'd expect. I went to a MB dealership a couple years back to test drive one because of my wife's back condition. When I saw the price tag I didn't even bother. I was afraid she might like it!
Sooner or later we all age and reach a point where those creature comforts seem really nice compared to the bare bones single purpose machines. I think I have all the features you mention on my A6 and I understand how you can appreciate them.
I guess my Vintage is showing when I say I was debating on going to the Lake George event. I looked up the distance and realized it would be a 22 hour round trip. The thought of that much seat time in the S2000 was enough to say I'll pass. I enjoy my couple hours on the race track much more. But, if you'd like loan me the Benz to visit NY..... I love to give it a try.

Thanks for your post, Maury. I was under the impression you didn't like it so much. Have you done tight curvey roads with it? How does it compare with the S on those, if you have?
