Down here they change the mix of the gas to a summer grade for pollution control. The MPGs always go down when they make the change
This is a big one. MBTE or ethanol (I believe) are mixed, as they are here, and both do in fact effect milage.

We don't keep any kind of detailed log book but the most mpg we ever had was 28-29, Not sure if we ever hit 30.

Most likely it is the "summer gas". Around here they "oxygenate" the gas from about April 15 to about November 15. It generally costs about 2 to 3 miles per gallon. I keep detailed records of my mpg in both my S and my Si and I never get anywhere near the mpg in the summer as I do in the winter.

If your plugs were changed at 58,000 miles they are most likely not the cause. Your tire inflation might be, and it's always a good idea to change your air filter regularly, but most likely the fuel is the cause. Especially if you car is otherwise running fine.

Do you use synthetic oil? I've heard that synthetic oil is good for about 1 mpg increase. I don't know first hand as I've always used Mobil 1 in both cars and have no basis of comparison.

First off, thank you, friends, who gave me advice...

I did have both of my auto record books in the car and I did change the air cleaner (myself) lately. I hate this lack of memory. People wonder why I take so many effing photos. That is why. Otherwise, I would think I slept through the meets I've gone to. I need proof, for myself, that I was there.

I was being a cheap ass and expecting too much, mileage-wise, out of my Suzuka baby. It did fine. Oh, and I did change the air filter, myself, not too long ago. Once again, I can't remember when I did it, but it is in my second record book, and I think it was about 10,000 miles ago. [OMG!! I'm rereading this, and I just repeated myself. I need to sleep 10 hours and quit driving!]

So, I was remembering getting 30+ mpg, on a trip or two, to Colorado. I thought that was normal. Then I started looking through my record book at my trip to Ohio, in July(?) 2005 for the Buckeye Meet. I remember it being so humid that water was dripping on my foot, in turns, from the a/c overflow (?). I never got that good of mileage back there.

My memory is pathetic. I seriously wonder if my dad's Alzheimer's is already showing up in my head. Get this... this morning, I was getting mad at myself for having trouble getting an earring in my right ear. I couldn't understand how come it was so hard for me. So, I went to the mirror and looked. I put TWO earrings in the same ear!

Back to topic, so, what kind of mileage did I get on this trip, from So Cal to Pennsylvania and now back to Lawrence, Kansas?

...Yesterday (Sunday) I got 25.1 mpg from Thursday before the meet/drive to Sunday, after dropping Jerry off at PIT.

Then I also, got 30.1 mpg between West Virginia (Cabella's) and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Today, Monday, I got 26.5 mpg between Indianapolis, Indiana and where ever 273 miles later was.

Also got 28.3 mpg between ^there and Lawrence, Kansas, 301 miles later.

I was in La La land when I expected 30+ mpg on a trip. I've had the a/c on since it's been very humid and around 90* today. When I got the 30+ mpg, on a trip, it was in nice dry desert air and I didn't have the air on.

I've driven 3,737 miles since Sunday, May 16th. I still like driving but it is going to be good to stay put at my sister's house for the next three nights. She has a new puppy and I can't wait to play with it.

patty,
when did you get your valves adjusted last. based on you changing the plugs 30K ago and the air filter 10Kago and you having almost 90K miles, i would recommend you checking the valve adjustment when you get back.

Tom!

Hmm. I had valve adjustment problems just about the time my differential died. I had it adjusted before the diff croaked. So, that was aroound 36,000 miles, if my Vintage brain is functioning.

You've probably never driven across the desert for an entire tank of gas with zero stops between gas stations.

So, sounds like things are normal. I suspected they would be. I only checked my gas mileage once in nine years, so I couldn't say what's good, what's not. Sounds like you've done all the right maintenance, so you should be fine as long as you don't try to install a new air cleaner on top of the one you have.
