Default High school shooting

This report about the parents is really disturbing to read.

We just can't relate to the way hardcore gun owners think. On the flipside I wish I could own a handgun, but I don't.

I was across the river on the day it happened, it gives you a sick feeling when see and hear of the chaos and children running and sheltering in place etc....

I sometimes think children like that may have been bullied or ridiculed on social media or at school, it doesn't justify shooting others but I think that is often a big motivator. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those cases. The child was obviously disturbed and the adults around him did not react in a reasonable way. The parents were negligent and they will pay a price for that.

It was good for the school officials to highlight the issue when discovered, but they almost need to take an immediate harder stance when they find information, like immediately send the child home and not allow him back to school until clearance is provided by a mental health professional.

I got a rifle for my 12th birthday. My dad made me take a 2 week hunter safety course before I could use it though.

I believe I was about 13 when I got my first rifle.

Sadly parenting is one of the easiest jobs to get and the hardest to do well.

As I think back to it, I guess technically I was 17 when I got my rifle.
I inherited it from my Dad. I guess you could say my mom held possession of it but it was in the closest with no locks.
Harry can argue with me but a lever action single shot Remington would be good for much in the hands of a teenager.

Social media must introduce a whole host of new issues that we never had to deal with as teens, the pressure can be too much for some kids and older parents have a hard time relating to it. I still don't know how to tweet and I'm not about to learn anytime soon.

My Dad took me shooting when I was around 12. He taught me safety how to load, and shoot at targets. I shot a 12 gauge when I started deer hunting and a 22 when I hunted squirll. I qualified for a .45 in the Navy. AfterI got married my Dad and I joined a gun club in Pa. We shot hand guns and trap. I shot a 12 gauge Remington pump and really enjoyed it. I now own a 9mm auto. I use it for target shooting and home defense. With the violence in today’s world I’m considering getting a gun carry permit.
