Emil,

I am curious if where you live the gas prices fluctuate depending not only on the day of the week but also the time of the day? I was surprised to learn that in Ottawa they do. The best time to fill up is around Mid-night on Wednesday.

But what does the price of gas in the free market have to do with politics?

It is too bad that they cannot come up with a wheeled vehicle that runs on HOT AIR, The "so called" leadership in Washington (on both sides of the aisle)could solve our energy dependence problem.

I couldn't agree more.

Of course the release of that news caused fuel in my area to jump from $3.119 to $3.499 for regular. What a scam.

Still cheap...with NY taxes, I'm paying $3.799 for regular. Will be putting a lot of miles on the motorcycle again this year.

I think it's a reliable story but haven't been able to confirm it [and I'll admit I didn't look too hard]. Anyway guess what the USA's largest export product currently is: Oil products, including gasoline. Refiners et al make more money shipping the stuff overseas than can selling it here.
Also we do not consume all that we produce. Excess needs to go some where and it does help the balance of trade. Also the price of oil (by default the price of gas) is controlled by the futures market and for the most part reflects only speculation and not true demand.

President can release gas from the national reserve. More availability means lowered price. (in theory)

All true... especially, in my opinion, the speculation part.

Here's one of the original sources about USA oil exports.
