Default Holidays

This weekend is Rosh Hashannah, the Jewish New Year. My oldest son, Andrew, is coming home from college to spend the holiday with us. We're very excited about it because we miss him.

As I've gotten older I've come to realize what is so very special about holidays. Its not the gifts, its not the religion, its being together with family and friends.

As we've become more spread out, and as our lives have become more and more cluttered with the details involved in making a living and living our lives we tend to forget about those who are close to us. We tend to take them for granted. But then come the holidays, all holidays, and once again, for a few hours we are reminded of whats important.

I think our meets are like holidays too. The meals, the drive, the car are all important, but I think we really all get together for the people. Just like on the holidays.

Anyway, happy holidays to everyone.

Same here, Rob.

I much prefer to give gifts than receive them.

I think the best gift ever was the birth of my daughter in January '05. Poor kid, we'll have to move her birthday to July if she wants any gifts

Thank you. Its so very strange. I had thought that Liz would miss him a great deal and that my youngest son Adam would miss him too. They do miss him, but to my surprize, I think I miss him the most. I'm glad hes coming home for the weekend holiday.

Absolutely right, and it gets better with each year.

For sure, the Vintage Meets are like big, whoop-ass, Holidays to me. I'm not sure if they are even more so for me, since it always involves airports, changing planes, and spending at least 7 hours in the air to get to it.

It's funny that when most of the family holidays are happening, in November to January, we don't have Vintage Meets. I guess it's good that they don't compete for attention. I wish we could have a mid-winter meet though. Make everyone fly in to some where and all of us have rental cars.

There is the Florida Fossil Fest. Something to think about.

The same thing happened to us when my son first left for college. I could not go into his bedroom at home for about 3 weeks. I figured my wife would be the one that would be the most upset but I think I was.
