Default Home improvement III

So what's your home improvement project this spring?

We just did a little re-do of our TV room, posted some pics in the Odds and Ends thread, but we have a bigger project starting tomorrow. A new deck to replace ours which is 20+ years old. The decking is getting tired, the railings are in tough shape, so it's time.

We have no intention of relocating, so we decided to spend a "few" extra dollars and get what we really wanted.

The old deck will be ripped off tomorrow. New deck starts on Monday.

Old deck:

Will post the after pics sometime next week.

Are you keeping the lattice or going with something new?

I'm definitely subscribing!

Undecided on lattice or boards... I saw the builder today and he ordered lattice, but I may ask if he's done it another way and check it out.

I will say some low/ no maintenance new products will be used. I think it's going to look better than the house.

My spring project will be: working on my tan. That's it. I have absolutely no plans for spring projects. I hired a guy to replace the gutters on my house, but I'm planning to be laying out on a beach somewhere sipping iced tea while he's doing the job. I may get around to calling the guy I get to sealcoat my driveway every year, but hey . . . the driveway isn't looking so bad. I think my really big spring project will be doing a little grandprix karting a couple/times if I can talk Jim into racing with me, but I think I'll work on my tan first.

Oh, this is a good one. I'm building a set of built-in bookcases. We have a room that is just begging to be a small office/library/reading room. I built a window seat last fall and just bought all the lumber for the bookcases this weekend. I'll post some pics of both tomorrow, when its daylight.

Just a couple of projects to finish up this week .......

Painted the basement and basement bath
installed 19 recessed lighting canisters and 5 dimmer switches and 2 new breakers
ceramic tiled the bathroom floor (30 sq ft)
crown molding and new baseboard molding in the basement
a new faucet for the shower
a stone wall around the corner flower bed
2 pendant lights in the kitchen

The wall: 25 feet in length .... I had 19 bags of readimix cement, 15 concrete blocks, and all the stone - All given to me by the neighbors ..... I bought 1700# sand and 10 bags of Portland cement .....cost about $100 ... just waiting for continued warm weather with no showers in the forecast to finish off the top ....
