Honda Battery
Based on various reports over many years on this site I've known Honda batteries to have some very long life spans. The wife tends to worry about tires, batteries, etc. Since her CR-Vs battery was over 5.5 years old she decided to get a new one. The dealership is often the last place to go for routine maintenance, so I priced a similar Duracell battery from Auto Zone. $233 with 3 year warranty and we install; unless they are not busy. For grins I called the dealership, R-51 and 500amp - $176 installed. Since she was going in for an oil change I told her to get it at the dealer. It was a nice surprise when the receipt said it has a 100-month warranty! Wow, 8 years and good at any Honda dealer.
That’s a good warranty for sure. I bought one of my replacement batteries at the Honda dealer and it was actually just about the same price as at a parts store but it included installation. If I remember right the S2000 battery is made by Panasonic or was back then. Last time I needed a battery for my S I bought one from Napa it was around 120 dollars. It’s over 5 years old now they give a 3 year warranty if I remember right.
My car’s current Honda branded battery was installed in 2018 at a Honda dealership. Do Honda dealers still sell the Honda branded battery? In other words, my battery has Honda decals and labels and would be what I would describe as an OEM battery. Curious if these are still sold or if other branded batteries are being pushed at the dealership. Might differ by dealership.

I went through something similar for my aunt's Pilot... Costco wanted 120 for a 36 month warranty battery.. I got a 100-month OEM Honda battery for the same price and installed it myself.. When the S2K's battery go, I'll go OEM as well.. Costco used to be my go-to for batteries but with the recent switch to Interstate batteries with no pro-rated warranty post 3 years, it's a horrible value now.

On one of my trips to the Honda dealer that I go to for parts when needed (as well as the battery in my 2008 Honda Fit Sport) I was there when an Interstate battery truck pulled up to deliver the OEM Honda branded batteries. The parts manager confirmed that Honda batteries in the U.S. are manufactured by Interstate.
- The first one lasted until December of 2014.
- The second one was installed in July of 2021

That's interesting Matt. The battery we installed sells for $200 with just a 2 year warranty at the Interstate site. So does that mean Honda can volume buy a higher standard battery and sell it for less?

The automotive battery industry is covered by a small number of manufacturers given all of acquisitions that have occurred over the years. I think Allied Signal controls most of it under different product names. I would not be surprised if Honda used Interstate for battery production at some point in time for some of their North American production. I recall having some Panasonic produced batteries in my cars that were manufactured in Japan. They can change all the time.
It sounds like you got a good deal on your battery Dave, that warranty is pretty decent.

I don't know the year of the CR-V but I just looked on Costco.com and found this...
