Default How long do you wait

I'm two years single. This is my third year where my Christmas tree comes down within a few days.

My ex always wanted the tree to stay up as long as possible, which meant that it was usually taken down mid July. By then the window dressings had glued on to the glass, the ornaments were frayed and damaged, and the tree was a fire hazard. An my sons were too embarrassed to bring their friends home from school because of the tree.

I've since found quite a few people who are reluctant to bring their tree down after Christmas. I think that there is even a name for the psychological condition for the reluctance.

So how long do you wait?

We have an artificial tree, so we don't have to worry about the messy needles. Ours is usually down by New Years day.

I'm ready for it to come down the day after Christmas, but we usually leave it up a few days. I used to wait until the Day of Epiphany (around 1/6), but now I try to have it down before New Year's Day. [rubs hands together] by then its time to start decorating for Valentine's Day, my favorite holiday.

Usually the first weekend after New Years Day. Since New Years is on a Sunday this year, the tree will be up a bit longer than usual - unless we do it on Monday since it's a holiday for us.

Not being a big fan of the holiday.... It takes a LOT to put up a tree ,but we do. However, there have been years I have taken it down the day after Christmas.

Once the tree is up, I do enjoy looking at it, it's really not in the way. But for me, when Christmas is over, it's over. Take the tree down and be done with it.

I take ours down when it's dry and we are going to go to the desert with our dirt bikes. We take it out there and burn it. It's always in January sometime. We get a 8 to 9 footer and they always go up quickly and impressively.

We take ours down later than most, I suppose. The tree is artificial, and quite an elaborate affair. Terry has won many awards for her trees done for the Long Island Festival of Trees, which benefits United Cerebral Palsy. We are in no hurry to take our personal one down.
