Default Hurrah!

I just went through the curious (and not altogether unstressful) experience of being head-hunted for a position in Denver, and, because Colorado >> Florida for me, I looked into it seriously. But ultimately, the university there picked the other guy, so I'm staying put.

Part of thinking about the possible move, though, was planning to scale back to being a one-car couple, and that car wouldn't have been the S -- I bought it for Florida, so that was where it was going to stay. That plan was OK at first, but in recent days, as the decision point grew closer, I found myself trying to rationalize taking the S to Colorado -- quite a sea change in my thinking about cars appropriate for winter and particularly the mountains in the winter, for I'm definitely an all-wheel-drive kind of guy.

And now that I know we're not going, I feel a wonderful sense of relief that I get to keep it. Whew!

Maybe I'll just go for a drive today. HPH

So I guess this means I have to find a different location for the liquor store. Oh well.

I'm glad you're sticking around.

Liz and I talk about moving back into Manhattan when our youngest, Adam, is finished with high school. I like everything about the idea except giving up my S and my Si. If we moved back we'd have, at best, only one car and it would probably be Liz's more practical 4 door Civic EX. So, I understand exactly where you are coming from.

Luckily for you the other guy got the job. Lucky for me Adam won't be out of High School for another 6 years.

If it stops raining I may just join you on that drive!

Good! Colorado is enticing but selling an S2000 is not.

Especially since you just moved there! I wouldn't like relocating again so soon. And you will be closer for East Coast events WITH YOUR S.

I have a different view of Florida. I moved here from NJ to finish college, in 1975. To make a long story short, I'm counting the days until we can leave, and that will happen when my youngest finishes high school in five years.

We lived in the DC area for one year in 2000, and it was a fantastic experience for us and the kids. Every weekend we did something different, visited many states, parks, museums, etc. We experienced seasons, mountains, and snow! We lived 45 minutes from Baltimore, 1.5 hours from Philly, and minutes from DC.

Here it takes six hours to leave the state. We feel as if we're stuck in a paved swamp, and we've had enough. Personally, I dream about mountains. Colorado sounds great! Just my opinion, of course.

I still love DC...which is good, since I'll be here quite awhile longer before I finally retire and we can relocate to Eastern NC (in maybe 10 years?). The +1 is younger and at the peak of his career, so need to stick around. Colorado is a beautiful state, though, so I can see why the good doc considered it seriously. My sis lives in Melbourne, FL, and I like visiting down there, but would not want to live there. South Carolina is the farthest south I could stand. To each his own though - that's why we have 50 states!
