I really need to learn how to heel & toe
good advice, all.
I love my Pilotis for driving.
For me - the Chazmo style (ball of foot on brake and heel on throttle) is most comfortable.
It really isn't *necessary* - but it's nice in some situations.

Hey Tom, Doug here. Marco is too kind, but yes, I'm 75% sure I'm going to be at Fall Colors and if I am all you need to do is find me and I will do what ever I can to find a comfortable heel toe solution that works for your feet and your seating position.
Chazmo, Marco has been busy building a moat around his castle, silly man thinks that will keep out the invading Enlightened Force...

I focus on smoothness and rev-matching. And the nice thing about being older is the only person I need to impress is myself with my times.
I'm so totally impressed.
It is so nice to read something like that.
I just wish some younger people could come to such a wise frame-of-reference...

I scanned the competition forum, and I wasn't satisfied with what I found...

Don't dispare if you can't master it. I've had major right ankle surgery and can no longer do it. It doesn't keep me from tracking the car. I focus on smoothness and rev-matching. And the nice thing about being older is the only person I need to impress is myself with my times.
I agree with your comment about not needing to impress anyone other than yourself.

I did search the competition forum, but couldn't find anything that seemed like it would help me. Could be my use of the search engine though...

Actually, that's not the way I do it, lig. Just so you guys know, I don't use my heel. I am massively duck-footed (my feet point out when I walk, especially my right foot.
I just put the left half of the ball of my right foot on the brake and use the right half of the same foot (with just a little twist of my ankle) to blip the throttle. It's almost my toes which tip into the throttle, not my heel.
Just thought I'd clarify. Maybe a little Vintage clinic of driving techniques at FC'04 might be fun. Who among those whippersnappers would know how to shift a '60s Dodge Dart (with "3 on the tree") except for us?
(the better question would be who would dare race one?
)
doh! lousy reading skills.
duck footed? I've seen guys kind of "goofy-foot" the heel and toe thing by using the heel for braking and ball of the foot for the throttle.
I think it would be harder to modulate the brake pedal that way but I'm sure if it's comfy - why not?
If it is just a lapping day I would check and see on the helmet thing... more than likely a motorcycle helmet with the current Snell approval would work...
gotta get to work...

I don't think my feet are big enough to try this...And yeah, Marco, where you been, bro? I thought maybe you fell in your moat.
