Default ICE WAVE!

A friend from Florida sent me these pictures. Fortuneatly he did not take them at home.

Amazing pictures up around Mackinac Island!!!
Michigan has had the coldest winter in decades. Water expands to freeze, and at Macinaw City the water in Lake Huron below the surface ice was supercooled. It expanded to break through the surface ice and froze into this incredible wave.
I've seen pictures of this wave phenomena in Antarctica, but in Michigan? Yes, it's been quite a winter!

Emil, I see since you have been stuck in the driveway all winter you have not looked in your backyard

...meanwhile, south and across the same lake there are wind-created ice formations. See pictures here.

The Great Lakes in winter can be brutal. HPH

Neat pics!

I don't think I could live there in Winter. I have enough trouble with MA winters.

You ought to try Ottawa. Was trying to fly out of here to a destination in the US last Wed, and what should have been a 2 hr trip turned out to take me 16 hours until I got to my destination. Coming home, my connecting flight in Toronto was cancelled because of weather and I couldn't get another flight until the next day. Snow here is piled up over 10 ft in places, because it has been so cold that it doesn't melt away, but just accumulates with each snowfall. This has been the worst winter for snow that I have ever experienced. Spring is just a little over a week away. Hard to believe that when I look outside.
