Default idiot educators

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/24/us/fo...ban/index.html

why do these people think that they have to control every aspect of a students life?
Education is not about clothing or hoodies or the length of their hair.
I seem to recall hair to my shoulder and cut off shorts and did rather well.
OK I get banning bandanas which are gang symbols.
but banning hair styles and sweatshirts. come on.
Can a teacher tell a student to put his hoodie down in class. yup he/she need to be paying attention.
but the over the top principals/administrators drive me nuts, they don't understand their jobs.

Wow! So very restrictive!

When I was in school, way back when, I recall that we girls were not allowed to wear pants. We had to wear skirts or dresses. And, they had to be a certain length.

Now those girls are not allowed to wear skirts or dresses! They have to wear pants!

Why not just go to uniforms? My son wore them in high school.

This is the work of school district/school board freaks, not teachers. These ghouls are not educators, they’re actively in opposition to kids learning, especially learning critical thinking skills.

My son and grandchildren all went to local vocational schools. They had dress codes. Not too strict, but there were some restrictions. I don't see an issue with some dress codes. However, restricting young girls from wearing dresses??? Then again, I've seen the hemline on some of these dresses and some of the styles young girls wear. Yikes!

If the goal is to teach the students, that they will not always be able to express themselves with clothing/hair in the adult world, dress codes can have a place.

Way back when, one local high school banned hats indoors. There was an uproar, and that uproar included parents who thought the kids should be able to express themselves. Sorry, I call BS on that.

I wore uniforms for almost all my years of school. It did make things easier. In our area, most private schools require uniforms, some charter schools do as well. I don't know of any public schools that require uniforms but it has been talked about over the years.

Sure. Because nothing is as dangerous to dogma as critical thinking and so many school board members cling to dogma like grim death.

What this world needs is a second Age of Reason.

So- the only difference between when you were in school and now are the details of what's allowed and what's not. Was not wearing pants restrictive? OR is their thinking being different than yours restrictive? OR have the times just changed?

I didn't see the video, but read the article. I have no issue with it. In some areas where there's mixed economic classes, dress codes can remove barriers and provide an similar experience to all.

You are right. When I was in school, it was also restrictive. I did not watch the video either, but I did read the entire article. I just thought there were many more restrictions now than when I was in school. Only solid color shirts and pants. Must be certain colors, etc.

Years ago I did not like the idea of requiring uniforms. However my opinion has changed now and I think it might not be such a bad idea.
