Does anyone collect these? I have gotten each year's truck as a Christmas gift from my father for 29 years straight. It's just not Christmas if I don't see the rectangular box and pack of batteries under the tree!!!

We used to collect them. We started 17 years ago when our oldest was born. I think they were $2.99 including the battery back then. Somehow about 4 or 5 years ago we lost interest. gave them all away, and stopped buying them.
When we started collecting them they used to come out the day after Thanksgiving and if you didn't act quickly they'd be gone. I think they used to sell out within two or three days. They must have increased the number of trucks that they had made in the last few years because we've noticed that our dealer now usually has them available until New Years Day.
We still buy Hess gas though. Our local Hess dealer was selling regular for $2.09/9 yesterday and he had plenty of Hess trucks to sell.
By the way, save the box too. Last year I tried to sell an old Lionel Santa Fe diesel that my father bought for me back in 1955 (not running, but in good shape). The collector store offered me more for the original box than for the engine. Had the box not be taped closed, he'd have offered me even more.
