Default For Kindle/e-Book Reader Owners

I just found out that our state library system has recently initiated the ability to check out e-books for FREE, as long as you have a current library card. It is an amazingly easy process, and for Kindle/Kindle apps, you actually download the book from Amazon. It works the same way as a "real" book, in that you can only keep it checked out for a max of 21 days. Also, if someone else has the book checked out, you have to put in a hold request and then they notify you via e-mail when it is "returned." They also limit you to 3 books checked out at one time.

I just downloaded 3 books for the Kindle app on my iPad.

Might be worthwhile investigating for your state/county/city, or however your local library system works.

Thanks for the info, Gene. I got a Kindle for a Christmas present. I'll check to see if my public library has checkout e-books.

Not nearly as slow as that book. Good luck with it. I'm an evo-devo guy and I thought it was a total bore.

Thanks, a friend mentioned that service is available at our local library, I wondered how it worked.

And if you're into classics, check out Gutenberg.org. They have e-book reader editions of just everything that's out of copyright. HPH

Thanks for the heads up. For a non-biologist like me it is supposed to be an up to date synthesis. I'll give it a try. My first Kindle venture. I like paper; it allows me to scribble.
