Default Large Family?

First of all, my maternal grandmother was pregnant 21 times and gave live birth to 17. Thats why this news article caught my attention.

I my opinion it's about 14 kids too many, but to each their own.

I think it's Jim Bob giving her the babies, not the Lord. Will somebody let her in on it please?

If some couples have the capacity to procreate and properly raise 16 children, where is the problem?
If in kids and spirituality they find their true happiness, then good for them!

I don't know.

How do you "properly" raise 16 children? How can you possibly give them the attention they need? I'd bet with 16 children, it's more a case of the older ones tending to the younger ones. Maybe not a bad thing, but I still don't see why having 16 kids is a good thing.

It isn't. It's socially and environmentally irresponsible, not to mention selfish.

I've always wondered how very large families survive financially.

And who gave you the authority to judge if this is socially and environmentally irresponsible?? This would depend on the people procreating the children. I would agree that some individuals ought to consider limiting the number of children they procreate, (or have none at all, keep the gene pool clean) as they really do not intend to care for them, are ignorant or irresponsible, live off society's support structure, etc.
But to make blanket statements is not fair to many couples who consider having and spending time with their children a more transcendental activity than say, adding yet another coat of zaino to their cars
Selfish? Please, just the opposite.
How many large families survive financially? Well, many families have money to begin with.
Again, I may be playing devil's advocate here, but I know of several large (over 11 members) families where each and every member has turned out to be an asset to their community. This may not be the rule, perhaps, but again, let's use language responsibly.
