My son just had Lasik surgery done yesterday. This morning, he went for check up. He is recovering well. His vision is now 20/15. So far, he is doing well. What a great procedure! He no longer has to contend with eyeglasses or contact lenses.

I would like to check it out some day.

I saw a news story of a weather lady who committed suicide a while back from the Detroit area. They say she was in extreme pain after lasik surgery and never recovered from it ? There may have been other things going on , but who knows. Is it possible to mess things up that bad ?

My wife needs cornea transplant surgery and has been putting it off for a couple years. Got'a be her decision, not mine. Swapping cornea's from a dead person is not to be taken lightly.

its an extremely rare post op condition. I have not seen it over the past nearly 25 years of managing post op LASIK.

The key to finding your surgeon is to ask for your optometrist's recommendation. I love LASIK for the right patient- motivated, healthy, no pre op contraindications (eg uncontrolled diabetic), stable myopic/astigmatic rx, average+ corneal thickness. Remember, LASIK corrects full distance correction so you'll need to still wear readers (for patients 40-45+). Don't shop your LASIK surgery based on price. Go all laser procedure (Intralase for flap). Price of LASIK in our area Joey is about $4800 CAN with a life time commitment (TLC or LVL in London are great surgical centres).

Now for your hyperopic person over 45, consider clear lens extraction instead of LASIK- double the cost, but provides both distance/intermediate correction.

wow, great info Darcy, nice summary and very helpful. Cost is pretty reasonable if it works right, definitely worth considering if my vision gets to the point of this being an option. Thanks pal !
