Default Last chance for a Viper

I toured their plant years back with an S2k group and it was very impressive.

You are so right - I'd much rather have a Porsche Cayman

I am happy that I had a chance to drive one of the 450HP / 450 FT #'s at the Skip Barber School back in 2001. IMHO I believe that it appeals to the same "point and shoot" mentality as the Z-06 buyer. Go fast in a straight line and tip toe around the corners. I could be wrong, but have you ever seen one being driven on a twisty road (besides a race track) by John Q Public?

With that stated: It would be a cool car to have in one's collection, along with a Ford GT, etc. If one could afford to have such a collection. BTW, After watching a recent episode of of Jay Leno's garage I am still kicking myself that I did not buy a Ford GT years ago against the advice of our financial advisor

You're kidding, right? A C7 Z06 pulls 1.20Gs on a skidpad. It would destroy any Cayman on a track. I don''t believe any stock Cayman could hang with my C7 Stingray on a track. My C7 gobbles up twisties all the time. There are lots of mountain roads in the LA area.

Well, not really. My comment is based on the driving habits of people that own Z-06's around the Washington DC Metro area. That includes that of my next door neighbor that had a Z-06 as his daily driver. He once took me for a ride in his AC Cobra kit car and he fit the profile of "point and shoot". To return the favor, I took him for a ride in my S on the same roads. I was afraid that he was going to leave DNA samples in the arm rest and dash board, with his finger nails. FWIIW: The Z-06 is one of the cars that I would LOVE to own. I used to live in Huntington Beach and have driven Mulholland Drive, I would love to do it in a Z-06. I have to believe that a lot of Z-06 and Porsche drivers in the LA area don't buy them to "really" drive them, they but them for status and ego. I am fairly certain that you will agree to that statement.

I don't agree with it. Every Z06 driver that I know likes to drive his or her car hard, including on mountain roads. I talk to Stingray and Z06 drivers every day on the Corvette Forum. A lot of them take their cars to the track on a regular basis.

I do think it matters where you live and the 'guys' you hang with. It's my understanding there are more Vette owners in Michigan than in any other state. Honestly, if I see one out of a hundred pushing their cars hard, that would be a lot. When I was taking my S2000 to the track I never saw any Vette's out there. Year's back I was a huge fan of John Greenwood and his LeMan's Vettes. I watched him race at Waterford Hills race track near Pontiac.
