Linksys Wireless Router Issues

The Linksys has a built-in firewall, but not anti-virus, as you suspect. What sort of wireless cards are in your laptop and desktop?
This sounds to me like you may simply have a defective unit; my Linksys-N has been fine for over 2 years, through numerous code upgrades.
What does your ISP have to say? I know mine has some decent configuration help and debugging details for routers/wireless routers that they support, and they do support Linksys.

Ran the full system scan from Norton and everything has worked great since. I DID NOT expect this to solve the problem.
Wireless routers seem to go bad often.
I just saw a Belkin wireless N router at Costco that included a USB port. It looks like you could plug an external hard drive directly to it.
I didn't get it because I had just bought a Maxtor 2 Terabyte Central Axis network storage server. Works fairly well.

Wife says she bought the desktop without a wireless card.
I don't know if this is significant or not but when I am away from the laptop for a while and it goes to sleep, I swipe my finger across the touchpad to wake it up. At that point if I refresh a web site that is currently up, I get an error message. Until I try again, then the connection is restored. It seems the internet connection goes to sleep when my laptop does, which I suspect is when the desktop loses its connection. It seems like the laptop is acting as a type of gateway to the internet. I swear Internet Connection Sharing is disabled.

I'll be home most of tomorrow until 3:30 PM ( going to friend's wedding). I should be home most of Sunday as well, so feel free to call me.
Edit: Oops, wrong place. It's in the network settings.
1.) Go to the network and sharing center
2.) Click on "Manage network connections"
3.) Right-click on your wireless network connection and select "Properties"
4.)Click the "Configure" button

5.) Click the "Power Management" tab
6.) Uncheck the box that allows the computer to turn off the connection to save power

Hope this helps.

Carmen, chack the power settings on your laptop. There is a setting for the network card to be diabled when the laptop goes to sleep...it's a power-saving setting. If you uncheck the box for this, your laptop will maintain a connection even when it goes on standby.
