I have read that the specificity of the targeted objects stolen strongly suggest that a collector wanted those not to melt down, but to keep. The world may never see them again as it is, but they may exist elsewhere. There are easier ways to get precious metals and gems than what they did. They would have cleaned the place out if so.

Neither do I. My collection of jewelry is my wedding ring, cross necklace and a Timex watch

I have my wedding ring, some silver cufflinks inscribed with my last initial, and a gold tie back in the shape of a golf bag my wife had made for me.
Not exactly ostentatious sorts of stuff.

Me either. I love to see gems such as huge sparking colored stones but I don't care about the settings in jewelry.

BTW, someone seems to WANT A CROWN.

I love looking at castles, buildings and architecture, but the art & museum stuff is a pass.

That is quite plausible. If you own these Crown Jewels. but you can't really show them to anyone, what is the benefit? Does someone who own art treasures derive that much joy simply from knowing that you have them? I heard on the radio Louvre opened the doors less 100 million dollars. They have to do better job in securing their treasures.

There are collectors who collect simply to collect, not to show off.

Nah, it would mess up his hair.

Has anyone questioned Brad Pitt or George Clooney? Word on the street is that they're quite experienced in theatrical heists.
