Default Maine Coons

Doug (Triple-H) and I thought we'd create a separate thread to inundate ya'll with photos of our Maine Coon cats.

We picked up Teal'c yesterday afternoon from a breeder just west of Milwaukee, WI. She has a total of twelve Maine Coons, and has about 2-3 litters a year. She breeds primarily to develop certain physical, color and personality traits for showing, and the few kittens that don't meet her standards are sold as pets.

Teal'c was 7 months old yesterday (he was born June 8, 2004) and weighs a little over 9 pounds. His daddy Harley is huge, roughly double Teal'c's size and weighs in at over 20 pounds. We got him home late yesterday afternoon, he actually tolerated the ride home rather well. He's esconsed in our bedroom as his safe place, with our other cats and dogs not allowed into the room for the time being.

When I went to release him from the carrier, I was petting him under his chin and he started purring like a buzz-zaw. After a few minutes he came out and explored the bed. We eventually left him alone, and he wound up nesting in the pillows. A little while later he went under the bed, but once I went to bed he came out and snuggled against my back, playing with my fingers.

He now owns me, as I am well and truly marked by him. He spent the night on my feet, and today he has been exploring the bedroom area. So far no mistakes, he's found his litter box, but still hasn't tried the scratch post. He's incredibly affectionate, and demands attention, to the point of getting in your face to get you to pet him.

I'm totally smitten...

I took these a few minutes ago.

Tom, what a beautiful cat! My cat, Ferrari, looked very, very similar to Teal'c, except I don't think he was a true Maine Coon.

Post more pictures when you can. By the way, what other pets will Teal'c be joining in the house?

Tom, I'd love to have a collection half as good as that one!
Right now, Mr. Spanks is king of the castle. If it was up to me, I'd be the cat lady of south Florida. Mr. JerseyGirl is the one who's holding me back. LOL

Can't have cats because of my daughter's EXTREME allergy, but if I could, it would have to be a Maine Coon (if I passed the adoption process ). Anyway, I love them, they're beautiful. ANNNNNDD, TC -- what an appropriate name -- are you an SG fan???? Hmmm??? (BTW, Teal'c is also one of my favorites)

Hi Darlene

Yup, we're both huge SG fans, and we're into SG Atlantis also (and SciFi nuts in general). We have all of the season DVDs, and can't wait for the next ones to come out.

We figured Teal'c was an appropriate name for him. The SG character really is a gentle giant, and it really fits our kitty.
