Has anyone here used Meditech in their proofessional lives? If you did, you know what it is. I'm interested in any opinions and experiences. If you used use, are you still using it?

My hospital uses Meditech. It has applications for nursing, pharmacy, lab, Xray, medical records, billing, etc. It is also somewhat easy to modify. Our IT department adds new files and works up new interfaces whenever we buy a new instrument. I've used 4 other LIS (laboratory information systems) and Meditech is the easiest to learn.

The system is well supported. We get upgrades 3 or 4 times a year which unfortunately require some downtime to install. If we have problems that our IT department cannot fix, they call Ohio 24 hours a day and it is fixed pronto.

We use it in a billing system and as document storage capacity. We have been told it's really hard (and expensive) to make changes and simplify. What we used to do is a couple clicks in Lotus Notes, now takes multiple windows in several different screens. We keep our progress notes, annual individual service plans and attendant documentation in files accessed from completely different areas of the desktop. When preparing letters, it takes less time to access the letter and input the individual information (names and dates) than to have the system draw this in from the internal database.
Thanks for your input.
