Memories- particularly for Ralper
Gary,
Your post reminded me of something that I did when I was a kid. My Bubby and Zayde lived near Tilden High School near Ralph Avenue a few miles from where we lived. Right after I got my driver's license (at 17 in New York if you took Driver's Ed) I'd visit my Bubby on Friday afternoons after school. Bubby used to bake small challahs and give me two to take home for our Friday night dinner. They were so good that I'd eat them both on the way home. A few months later my Bubby asked my mother why she never mentioned the Challahs. My mother asked, "What challahs?". Needless to say I had an awful lot of explaining to do. Bubby had the answer. She started baking 4 challahs for us. Two for me to eat on the drive home and two for our Friday night dinner.

sounds like a great place to grow up. I grew up in Baltimore and have fond memories of growing up there as well. Our town of Hamden was a blue collar town. It has remained the same since I lived there. We had a great park nearby where I played baseball, football, basketball and in winter a pond we skated on. I worked in a Jewish owned grocery store through high school. I paid for my own gas, insurance and date money all for my 57 Chevy that my father called “The Bomb”. And we had 2 great amusement parks we would go to. I grew up in a row house that my grandfather owned with my Mom and Dad and her sister hubby and daughter. It was tight but we all got along. Fond memories for sure.

Nice! My dad went to Tilden IIRC.
From Lapels to Leggings, through the years
We also used to dress up when we went downtown!
