Default Microsoft Edge stopped working.

As of today (11-8-23) it turns on briefly, then shuts down. But, doesn't freeze the computer.

All the YouTube and Net suggested fixes don't work. Won't run, even in System Administrator mode.

Thanks goodness Firefox is working.

Why would you use Edge?

Here is how Malwarebytes defines malware:

Malware, or “malicious software,” is an umbrella term that describes any malicious program or code that is harmful to systems.Hostile, intrusive, and intentionally nasty, malware seeks to invade, damage, or disable computers, computer systems, networks, tablets, and mobile devices, often by taking partial control over a device’s operations. Like the human flu, it interferes with normal functioning.
Sounds like Edge to me.

I'm not having a problem with Edge (I alternate between Edge and Chrome) but I'm having a great deal of difficulty with Outlook. It's running very slowly and as often as not gets stuck. I often have to go into the task manager and close it before I can reopen it. Some of might be my own fault as I have 7 e-mail addresses and some of them have a great deal of e-mails, but Liz has the same problem on her computer and she only has one e-mail address and keeps her inbox very clean.

I spent the morning trying to use old DOS at the Command Prompt, to clear the DNS settings for Edge.

DNS cleared and computer rebooted.

No go.

I never used Microsoft for a browser or a search engine. From the start I just preferred other platforms. They seemed more user friendly.

Good luck.

While I understand that sometimes you have no choice but to "end task" and close the application the hard way, doing so will cause corruption in your PST files. Then when you re-open, Outlook will struggle to deal with reading the corrupted PST files. The first place I would start is to run the scanpst utility. Then, after it's completed, I would compact the PST files. PST files are basically a database and they do benefit from regular maintenance like repair and compact.

Okay, I settled for Chrome with Adblocker as default browser.

Seems to be fast and not as many website issues as Firefox. That browser has problems with certain sites.

See how long this lasts.

NOTE: S2KI site has a lot of popups. I never got them with Edge. It's why I downloaded Adblocker.

Well, it's bad when it's been working for 1-year.

Luckily, I had all the bookmarks backed-up onto Firefox. And saved all my passwords onto an SD card.

At work we call IT. At home, IT is the dumb reflection in a dead monitor, in front of me.
